7/8/2008Living in the Cloud? Mashups help you keep your feet (and your data) on the ground! As many companies turn to outsourcing basic IT functions and infrastructure 'into the cloud', I often wonder if the costs/benefits are fully considered. Or if they can be at this point. Even if I could get past the inherent issues with security, privacy, ownership of data, continuity of service, consistent quality of service, and more; the one remaining issue I can't come to terms with is the forced adoption of new versions. This is fine (and expected) for a web site; but imagine logging into your cloud-based web application minutes before a deadline and fumbling around a new interface, complete with fresh new quirks. But the fun continues...the old web app you just become familiar with (and which convinced you to sign up) is gone, for good, like a cloud in the hot sun. Is this why they call it cloud-based computing? (Probably not, but let's ask this again in 3 or 4 years.)
In-house solutions, while not perfect, are at least more predictable in this respect. But if you must move toward the cloud, mashups can help your business create a hybrid between apps and data at service providers, and your leaner and more efficient in-house IT.
With a mashup application you can combine both data and processing power between your IT and your chosen cloud-based services, while leaving your more sensitive data and application logic secure inside your business. Let's face it, how many businesses want their confidential product or business strategy turning up in a Google search. 6/26/2008Web applications from your desktop with InstantEnterprise.NET™Installing and configuring complex server technologies can be hard, particularly for anyone outside of the IT world. See how easy it is to create full-featured web-based business applications.5/6/2007Optimized for ChangeInstantEnterprise.NET is optimized for change We understand that your business needs to be responsive, and that often means modifying your enterprise software more frequently than might be advisable in a conventional development environment.
InstantEnterprise.NET is designed to minimize dependencies between functional portions of your application. Using a loosely coupled, layered architecture allows you to focus on just the business logic portion of your application.
Adding an action, a report, a new screen or a menu option can generally be accomplished quickly and easily...and without changing any of your configured software. Since business scripts are stored and retrieved from your provisioned database, updates to your application logic are completely separated from you installed, configured web application!4/22/2007How is InstantEnterprise.NET™ Different than Conventional Web Application Code Generators: Most Code Generators are like Training WheelsWhile conventional code generators are useful, their value should not be misunderstood. Too often, inexperienced developers, or even non-developers begin projects with code generators only to find themselves in deep water when they need to step in and complete the application. In this way code generators often are used as 'training wheels', getting new developers up to speed more quickly by creating working project code samples that are eventually migrated to other environments, such as Microsoft Visual Studio for completion.
For experienced developers, code generators can be very useful to save time getting started, and can significantly reduce the burden on developers by automating much of the mundane work in developing one or many new web applications. But in the end, you can count on needing to perform the final development, and likely all or nearly all of the maintenance for your application with a tool such as Microsoft Visual Studio. In fact, the further along your development effort gets, the less you will likely be using your code generator and the more you will be maintaining your project by yourself.
The bottom line here is that code generators may initially save you time, but in the end, you will need the same skill set, knowledge, and experience that you would if you were beginning the project from scratch.
InstantEnterprise.NET changes this approach, and opens up enterprise web application development to inexperienced developers, non-developers, busy System Admins and DBAs, and even tech-savvy business people. By providing a fast, easy to use solution for the full development life cycle, you will find yourself creating, completing and maintaining your business web applications completely with InstantEnterprise.NET. See our videos section for a demonstration of how your application could be up and running in as little as an hour. Even more complicated applications can be completed, installed and configured within in a few hours.
